From the Naurouze threshold to Revel, follow in the footsteps of Pierre-Paul Riquet to the sources of the Canal du Midi and its hydraulic waterworks. You will follow the towpaths in the shade of the plane trees and then the greenway of the Rigole de la Plaine from Lac de Lenclas to Revel.
The plains and villages of the Lauragais region dot this part of the route. In the flowering season, the fields are covered with ears of corn, sunflowers and poppies. A mosaic of agricultural and cereal colours, which can be found in the tapestries of the town of Sorèze, in the polychrome galleries of the Halle de Revel or in Castres on the houses on the Agout river.
The Montagne Noire gradually takes shape as you head towards Castres. Rivers, limestone plateaux, forests and sumptuous buildings tell you the history of the land. Towns that have developed by benefiting from nature by using water for wool, leather and textile production.
Towards Mazamet, along the Chemin Blanc greenway, the Causse de Caucalières rises up. Herding dogs work here, rare orchids grow here and amazing insects have taken refuge here. A Natura 2000 site which you can ensure is preserved by staying on the path.
